Heading East
Leaving Phitsanulok, heading east toward Laos, only one road was laying in front of us. Route 12. Going through forests, national parks and hills (lots !!!), this road would be our nemesis for the next couple of weeks. Fighting against time to get out of Thailand before our visas expire we have no choice but keep the pace high. The first leg was hard and long, through a national forest without the usual road side rest stops we were used to. We were tired, hungry, thirsty and still had to tackle the hills, climbing above 1000 meters. With the night falling we were even considering wild camping… but fortunately, like a veritable oasis in the desert, the oddest place raised up out of nowhere in the middle of Route 12, designed as a reference to Route 66 and the American far west.
