I seriously was. For reals.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to be on a local TV show presented by The Taco Society. It is a show about writing, writers, and the art of writing.

Yes, I don’t know why I was asked to be on the show either.

I was pretty excited to be a part of the show. I generally don’t get excited either. Like, ever. Even on my wedding. Please don’t tell my wife.

You told my wife. Dicks.

I was one of three local authors to be interviewed that particular show. The show was so large they had to split it into two shows. I choose to believe that it was contain my ego, which, as we all know, is out of control. Seriously. Why haven’t any of you staged an intervention yet? This is all your fault, you know.

On the show, I was asked about my writing, my influences, why I write, and why I love writing. To be honest, when I get asked these questions by friends, family or people I’ve just met that have heard I am an author, I get very self-conscious. There is no real rational reason for it. Maybe I don’t want to sound like an arrogant, arty douche. Yes, I am aware my website says ‘Greatest Writer in the History of Ever’. But, that’s just telling the truth. I think that maybe the real reason why I clam up when I talk about my writing is because I feel that people will feel the need to engage in the social contract and think I want them to read my stuff, or promise to read it when they have no intention of doing so. Hey, that’s fine. We don’t need to do the dance, you know? Let’s talk about it without pretense.

I got to do that with the Taco Society. No, I don’t know why they are called that. No, I don’t want to know, either. I prefer the mystery. Like, what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction? Don’t care.

On the show, it wasn’t so much an interview as it was a discussion, where I got to be myself and have fun. I also ate a taco. Why? Because:

I talked about why I write, where I like to live in my writing, how I do it, and my influences. I kind of went off on a tangent about influences, as you will no doubt see when you get around to watching the interview after all those cat videos and the ones where people get their zits popped.

Seriously, you are sick.

I even read a bit of probably my most depressingly beautiful story to date, ‘Jesus Saves’, which, again, has nothing to do with Jesus. AT ALL. Sorry, Christian friends.

Anyway, it was a wonderful experience, asides from the very long, very excruciating evening I had AFTER I ate that taco. I hope to appear on the show again in the future, if I didn’t freak the Society out, that is.

Check out the interview in my new FANCY Videos section!
